Welcome to Protect Our Futures

America’s Covenant

When America’s forefathers, now called Pilgrims, landed on this continent in November 1620 the first thing they did after the long voyage was to fall on their knees and thank God for His protection from harm.  The following quote is from William Bradford:   “Being thus arrived in a good harbor and brought safe to land, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean.”  We also know that the reason these people left England was because their hearts had been touched by the Lord “with a zeal for the truth.”

Today America’s zeal for the truth seems to have disappeared except in the hearts of a very few people.  It has even been lost in the hearts of many who call themselves Christians.  Instead we have “exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man.”  We have rejected the truth of God, “professed ourselves to be wise” and have become fools.  [Romans 1]  Proverbs describes the fool in many ways: “Fools mock at sin,” “A fool is arrogant and careless, “a scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none,” and “Leave the presence of a fool or you will not discern words of knowledge.”  Psalm 14:1 says, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’”

One verse that describes to me America’s downfall is Proverbs 14:1: “The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands.”  America has lost wisdom that can only be found in the truth of God, and in our foolishness we as a nation are tearing down our own house around us.  We as a nation have rejected the protection of God that comes with honoring Him, and have turned to our own foolish pride to protect ourselves.

The most important thing that the Pilgrims did for their protection as a company was the signing of the Mayflower Compact before the people even went ashore.  The Pilgrims made a covenant with God because they realized that without God as their Protector, the settlement was doomed to failure.  They realized that without some basis for civil government some of the people would go their own selfish ways and pervert the liberty that they had been given.  This is still true today – without civil government based on God’s laws we are doomed to fail as a nation as we all go our own way and give up our God-given liberty.  True liberty is not something we can create for ourselves; it is a gift from God.  True liberty is the freedom to do what is right, not to do as we please.

The Mayflower Compact
November 11, 1620

In the name of God, Amen.  We whose names are underwritten, the loyall subjects of our dread soveraigne Lord, King James, by the grace of God, of Great Britaine, France, and Ireland king, defender of the faith, etc.

Having undertaken for the gloire of God, and advancements of the Christian faith, and honour of our king and countrie, a voyage to plant the first colonie in the Northerne parts of Virginia, doe by these presents solemnly and mutualy in the presence of God, and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves togeather into a civil body politick, for our better ordering and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hearof to enacte, constitute, and frame such just and equall laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meete and convenient for the general good of the colonie, unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.   In witness whereof we have hereunder subscribed our names at CapCodd the 11 of November, in the year of the raigne of our soveraigne Lord, King James of England, France, and Ireland the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fiftie fourth.  Anno Dom. 1620.

You will see in this document that the people referred to God four times.  They also refer to the “advancements of the Christian faith”.  Nothing is mentioned about other gods, such as Allah, or other faiths or doctrines than those from God’s word in the Mayflower Compact.  These people who made this covenant clearly believed in the one true God of heaven and clearly state that this covenant is for the purpose of the “better ordering and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid.”  There is nothing mentioned about liberty outside of these goals.  There is nothing mentioned about freedom to pursue happiness apart from the goals of the covenant.  Apparently they did not believe in the pursuit of happiness apart from God’s ways.

America as a nation had come to a place where happiness for all people apart from God’s ways is now the basis of many of our laws.  We are a nation built on a welfare system that guarantees happiness for all, regardless of whether that happiness is good for our nation or if that pursuit of happiness is God’s will for us as a nation.   We as a people now look to our government as our god to provide everything we need as a people and we no longer look to the true God as our Provider.  This attitude is very clear in our educational system, where we have removed everything to do with God; and in our health care system that allows the murder of our babies.  We are allowing lazy people who refuse to work to have all the benefits of those people who do believe the Bible when it says in II Thessalonians 3:10:  “If anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.”  The “happiness for all” attitude is even evident in the penal system of our nation where criminals are living in conditions that are higher in quality than most of the citizens in this nation.   Criminals are no longer required to make restitution to the victims of their crimes, or to pay for their prison costs.

Why are we in this mess?  We have chosen to make a god out of our own freedom for happiness without restraints and have forgotten the covenant that was made with God in the beginning of this nation.  One thing we must remember about covenants with God – when they are broken there are great consequences to the breaking.  Just as there are blessings that come with the covenants, there are curses on those who break them.  It is very clear from Scripture that these consequences not only apply to individuals, but to nations as well. In our foolish, darkened hearts, we are professing ourselves to be wise and in need of no one’s protection and as a consequence, we have torn our own house down around us.  America’s future is now without protection, unless …..
